Desired by Wolves – Call of the Wolf 2

5 STARS: “Call of the Wolf 2: Desired by Wolves by Diane Leyne is an excellent paranormal romance. I enjoyed reading it immensely. Call of the Wolf 2: Desired by wolves is Alex, Joe, Will and Lena’s story. I enjoyed all the characters and the storyline in Call of the Wolf 2: Desired by Wolves. The more I read by this author the more I want to read. Diane Leyne knows how to hook a reader in she never lets them go. Lena grew up knowing who she would love for the rest of her life. She was supposed to be mated with Alex, Joe and Will. She has accepted this and even loves all her future mates. When Alex leaves to serve the country she leaves to go to school. She always figured that when she was done the four of them would live out their happily ever after but that didn’t happen. Alex kept reenlisting in the armed forces. Over time she accepted the fact that she has been rejected by Alex. She still loves Joe and Will and they are tied together even if Alex isn’t. However, she refuses to be with them on a full moon. She avoids them because they can’t fully bond without Alex there because he is their Alpha. When she finds out that he is hanging out around her place she is infuriated, until she realizes that he wounded and the depth of those wounds. She realizes that he isn’t just hurt physically but that there is more to it than that. She will do anything to help him, but could she give him her heart again? Or would she continue on the way she has? Alex thought he knew what was best for Lena and his brothers. That is why he left to serve the country across seas. He didn’t want to hold Lena back. He wanted her to be able to follow her dreams, and that is something she would not have been able to do if he stayed behind. He had not counted on getting wounded, and he most certainly had not expected to go back home that way. He was avoiding everyone Lena included. He loved her but he knew there was no way that she could accept him now in his current condition. He wasn’t the Alpha he should be. He is very aware of her but he can’t face her rejection so he continues to hide. When she finds him at her house playing with her dog she sees that he is wounded. It seems, to him, that she is willing to go the extra mile to help him. Is that because she loves him? Or out of pity? He could not stand it if she pitied him. Is he willing to get past his insecurities to find out? Or will he continue to be the wounded solider he is?Joe and Will have waited long enough to mate with Lena. They have been patient, especially since Alex has been gone for so long. Now that he is back in town they are determined to make it happen. It is what is supposed to be and they have suffered long enough. They know that she loves them and that they love her. They are even sure that Alex loves her too, even if he continues to “run away” from her. They are hatching a plan to make sure they will all be one during the next full moon. When Alex begins to come out of his shell they are hopeful. They even think it is because of Lena. Will they be able to solidify their bond and be joined together as one? Or will they be disappointed once again? I could not put Call of the Wolf 2: Desired by Wolves down. Once I started I was unable to pull myself away from Alex, Joe, Will, and Lena. I really liked Alex. He was a good character because he loved Lena enough to let her do her thing. I do think that there was a little selfishness in his selflessness though. Especially once he returned. Lena was an interesting character as well. The fact that she was able to show Alex compassion even after he left her showed her character. I found Will and Joe to be enjoyable as well. I love that they were plotting to get their way. I think that all four of them worked well together. The plot was easy to follow and well written. I would highly recommend Call of the Wolf 2: Desired by Wolves to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances especially ones with hunky werewolves that know how to please.” Sizzling Hot Books

5 STARS: “Another Sexy as hell story from Diane Leyne. I absolutely positively love Alex! I felt for him so much in this book, I cried along with him, I wanted to hug this big bad alpha who feels like half a man and scared shitless to be without his mate the rest of his life but scared also of being with  her. I cannot say enough about Alex this war hero who is in excruciating pain everyday and feels so alone. Lena I love too I mean who doesn’t she’s awesome..she takes in a stray dog that’s injured, she’s a vet and she’s the mate of three wolf shifter brothers but the mating was put off when Alex re enlisted. Will and Joe are sexy as hell and dying to claim their mate but they have to wait until the Alpha mans up…a lot of emotions in this book, happiness, sadness, joy and love. What a great book. This one is my fav so far and can’t wait to read more…. ” — Nanee McGee, Up All Night, Read All Day…Book Reviews

5 HEARTS: “I was so excited to be asked to review Desired by Wolves, the second book in Diane Leyne’s  Call of the Wolf series. I loved the first book in the series, Claimed by Wolves. It was a sweet story with a lot of humor and I was expecting more of the same in Desired by Wolves. Boy was I wrong and I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Desired by Wolves pulled at my heartstrings almost from page one. I was so moved by the story that I caught myself shedding a few tears – both in sadness and happiness. Lena and brothers, Alex, Will and Joe grew up together. Their hometown of Harmony is a community of werewolves where ménage is the norm. Lena always knew that the James brothers were her fated mates. She was willing to give up anything, including her dreams of veterinary school, to be with her men. But before they could officially mate, Alex disappeared. He didn’t want Lena to give up her dreams and he felt they were all too young to make a lifelong commitment. Alex re-enlists in the Army and disappears leaving the others to move on with their lives. Fast forward ten years later and Alex is back in Harmony. A lot has changed in that time, especially Alex. He has suffered a devastating war injury that has severely impacted his self-confidence. He believes that Lena could never love him in this condition and he is determined to keep his return a secret. But secrets always have a way of being discovered, and now Lena has to learn to forgive Alex and help him heal without losing her heart again. Desired by Wolves took me on an emotional journey with highs and lows. It broke my heart to see the emotional and mental damage that Alex suffered. I shed a few tears at seeing this once strong and confident Alpha be afraid of loud noises, suffer panic attacks, and basically become a shadow of his former life. Ms. Leyne painted such a realistic picture of a soldier suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and my mind couldn’t help but go to the thousands of our American soldiers who must be facing the same problems everyday. I was amazed at Ms. Leyne’s ability to describe Alex’s new demeanor in such a detailed way that I was just as saddened by the changes as Lena was despite never knowing the pre-war Alex. Lena was a strong heroine who was able to move on from heartbreak and follow her dreams to become a vet. It was her compassion and empathy that not only made her a great vet, but also be the perfect person to help Alex deal with his PTSD. Her loving and caring way helped heal him and I hope that our returning soldiers are lucky enough to have their own “Lena” in their lives. Lena reminded me of myself in that she loved Alex but still held onto her anger and his autocratic decision all those years ago. While I understand that Alex thought he was doing the right thing by holding off on their mating since he was going off to war and could potentially be killed, I understood Lena’s anger and frustration.  It can be so frustrating when a man makes a decision that he thinks is in his woman’s best interest without consulting her. I truly appreciated that Ms. Leyne talked about the work that Alex had to do in order to deal with his PTSD. She painted a realistic picture of the steps needed to recover emotionally from such a horrific experience. Alex saw a therapist and attended a support group and opened his heart and soul to the people who loved him. Desired by Wolves was not your traditional ménage. Though Will and Joe were a part of Lena’s life, the main focus of the story was the relationship between Lena and Alex. Yet I didn’t feel anything was missing because I was engrossed in Lena and Alex’s story. Will and Joe were there to support their brother and their mate and their dedication and love was apparent even without being the main focus. That is a testament to Ms. Leyne’s strong story-telling abilities. While Desired by Wolves can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading Claimed by Wolves because it’s a great book. And once you have read both books, I believe you will become a Ms. Leyne fan like I am.” — Robin, Sizzling Hot Books

5 STARS: “Leyne is a new writer to me and I read two of her books at the same time. I seldom get books to review that are different from all the others, but I enjoyed both of these. The first showed a playful sense of humor that I liked, and that humor also showed through in this one. However, in Call of the Wolf 2—Desired by Wolves, the author tackled a modern problem, that of returning soldiers with PTSD. It is thoughtfully done, and shows what soldiers face when they return home damaged physically, emotionally or both. Lena is the town vet in Harmony, and she is in love with brothers Joe and Will. However, their Alpha, Alex who has been away in the service for ten years, has just returned, a broken man. The three want to help him so they can all be together, as a mated pack, and they can’t do that till their Alpha is made whole. I like Leyne’s take on the story, and hope to see more, but I’d like to see more editing in the way of word usage, tenses, and continuity.” — Alberta, Manic Readers

“Growing up around werewolves, Lena knows what to expect. The brothers of a family share one wife. Lena accepted it and was looking forward to it. The James brothers new Lena was the one. They also new they had to follow Alex, the alpha of the 3. Alex being the oldest at 22, in the military, thought his 18 yr old brothers and Lena were too young to make such a commitment and made the choice for them all. Alex re-inlists and breaks Lena’s heart. With Alex away Lena goes back to school, becomes a vet and then returns home to the city she grew up in, knowing the James brothers are waiting for her. 2 of the brothers want her back even if it means going around their alpha. Alex wounded emotionally and physically from war and torture, doesn’t think he is worthy of Lena, and hides for as long as he can. But a small dog who Lena has befriended may be the catalyst to a new start between Alex, Lena and the entire James family. What a great story. I really enjoyed the James brothers. I will tell you this book was giving to me at a time when I was really excited to read it. About 2 days later I received terrible news about family and had to put it on the back burner for a while. So at one of the saddest moments of my life, this book kept my mind occupied and gave me the distraction I truly needed.  I will always be grateful. I thought the book was very well written and loved the story of Alex and Lena, the brothers just make it even hotter. Damage whether it be mental, physical, or what ever may not ever truly go away but love can over come most obstacles. If you have not picked up this series …do pick it up. It is well worth the read. Thanks Diane for a great read and I hope you will send me more. Adults only…menage scenes are very hot!” — Julie Ramsey, Julie’s Book Review
