For the Love of Elephants

Elephants have been my favourite animal since I did a project on them in the 3rd or 4th grades.  I was privileged to see many in the wild when I went on safari in Kenya in 1989.

In 2004, I visited Thailand with a very good friend, Sandra.   I’d found a link to an interesting looking elephant sanctuary on the internet, but since you can’t always be sure of quality, we just arranged to a day trip, even though you could book up to two weeks as a “volunteer elephant helper”.

The day there was magical and, of course, I immediately booked to return the following year for a 2 week visit. is a wonder place run by the incomparable Lek who had devoted her life not just on helping the elephants, but educating others.
